This page is to show what I am doing with my reefs.

36 Gallon Bowfront (Home)

36 Gallon BowfrontIn June of 2004 we decided that we wanted a pet. We lived in an apartment at the time and we didn't think that we wanted to have a dog in that small of a space. A fish tank seemed to be a good option for us. The next question was salt or freshwater. We went to the book store and found a book that covered both. It really wasn't much of a choice once we had read most of the book.

So a marine tank it was. The next day we went to the local fish store and the were more than happy to sell us everything we needed to get going. They sold us a heater, Fluval 204 canister filter, Seaclone 100 protein skimmer, Coralife 2x65W PC light and various other little things.

We got it all setup and they had us use BioSpira to quick cycle the tank. It seemed to work and we got 2 Amphiprion Perculas that were about 1/2 inch long. We also got like 15 pounds of live rock.

75 Gallon (Office)

75 GallonI bought this tank from a guy in Lewiston, ID. It was always planned to be in my office at Decagon. It has been quite the hit.

I wanted to try out a deep sand bed. I did some calculations and determined that I would need about 250 pounds of sand. Not having a lot of financial resources for this I bought playsand from the hardware store for $12. My biggest mistake was not rinsing the sand. I had some major problems with siltation. Especially once I got my pistol shrimp. I digress.

I currently run an AquaC Remora skimmer and 3 Maxijet 1200s for flow. I have a 55 gallon Reef ready tank that I am planning on replacing the 75 with. I still need to build a stand for it and design a sump. I have a few ideas for it but nothing solid...yet.
